Why are we here and other Australia questions

Why are we here and other Australia questions

We’ve been here almost 2 full months now so I figured it is time to answer all of the questions I get on a regular basis about moving to Australia.

Why did you move to Australia?
Greg (my husband) accepted a short term work transfer for the next year to the office here in Sydney.

What are you doing here?
At the moment I’m exploring, keeping up with the house, and job hunting.

How do you like Australia so far?
I truly love it here. I feel like I belong here and I love everything about the city.

What is the best thing about living in Australia?
Warm weather, access to public transit, being near the ocean, amazing food, cool animals. Pretty much everything about living here is great.

What is the hardest thing about living in Australia?
Mostly being away from my mom and my hedgehog. I miss them both so much. It is also hard to not have access to the same foods as I have at home. I miss crumbl cookies and good Mexican food.

What is the biggest difference between the US and Australia so far?
Cars being on the other side of the road? I wouldn’t say that there are any big differences, just lots of little things. The huge variety of every kind of Asian food you could want, what things are available in the grocery store, and interestingly the attitidue towards debt are some things I’ve noticed pretty often.

What has surprised you the most about Australia?
It sounds kind of funny, but the biggest thing has been the slang. I definitely expected it to some degree but it has been much more frequent than I thought. It has been kind of funny to be having a conversation with someone and realize we were talking about 2 different things with the same word.

Any big plans while you’re here?
I’m headed to Tasmania soon, but otherwise we’re mostly focussing on little weekends near the city. There is definitely a lot of Australia to explore but for now just taking it one step at a time.

That’s all I can think of for now, but if you have any other questions let me know!
