Monthly Goal Setting: July/ August
If you’ve been following my blog, you will know that I’ve been working on documenting my goals each month in the hopes of holding myself accountable and actually accomplishing the things I want to do with my life. I’m not really sure where to start with this month because in many ways, I feel like I have failed, so I guess I will start with that.
The no sugar challenge
Somehow, this was harder the second time around. I definitely gave in a time or two (okay maybe more) but in general, I did okay about sticking to my guns when it came to the food I bought and ate at home. I really wish I had done better because I feel like I could have been a lot more successful in my health and weight loss goals if I had. Overall, I have come to the conclusion that I just have to look at each time I said no to free cookies at work (which is every day) a success.
I’ll give myself a 7/10 on this one. I did great until we went out of town to visit family. Somehow, keeping with goals gets harder when you are on the road and meeting up with people (the same goes for the sugar thing too). Then my husband was out of town, and sometimes it was hard to go to bed alone without the distraction of a mindless TV show before bed. I tried to get myself out of that routine, and overall I think I did okay. Although I didn’t develop the exact routine I wanted, I did pretty good at avoiding screen time *most nights and that is progress.
Biting my nails
I wanted to end this post on a high note so I saved the best for last. The good news is that I did it. I went a whole month without biting my nails. Now I just have to keep it up. I used this handy nail polish which works well for me when I remember to keep it up.
Moving forward next month, I want to keep pushing myself to hit a few different goals. Here is what I plan to work on.
I’ve tried to avoid making specific weight loss numbers part of my monthly goals because I want to be heath driven not number driven. But ultimately I really want to keep myself on track and I am decently close to hitting my next major point so my goal for August is to hit my 30 pounds lost mark.
Clean for 30 minutes a day
While Greg was out of town, I definitely let my cleaning duties slide. To get myself back on track I want to commit to a 30 minute clean up every day to get dishes out of the sink, and keep the house picked up. It may seem like a silly thing, but having a clean house really impacts my mood and overall happiness.
All of my goals over the last few months have been really focussed on the things I can do to improve myself as a person. I have loved having these opportunities and I am proud of the things I have accomplished. Due to a policy change at work, I no longer have the chance to work over time so instead I want to use that time to volunteer instead. My goal for this month is to volunteer at least 3 hours a week.
So that’s it from me. Tell me about your goals (current or future) in the comments down below. If you aren’t currently setting goals, I would encourage you to give it a chance and experience the ways it can change your life for yourself.
